I try to engage in artistic practice in my works and in everything I do. You are either living as an artist or you are not. In one of my favorite books, The Creative Act: A Way of Being, the author Rick Rubin shares his perception of creativity. He says, Art is a form of communication, and often times it shares what cannot be said.
“The goal is not to fit in. If anything, it’s to amplify the differences, what doesn’t fit, the special characteristics unique to how you see the world. Instead of sounding like others, value your own voice and develop it.” -Rick Rubin
This is an organic exploration of masculinity, solitude, and the construct of the body. With this piece, I used my lens as a window for others to look through and discover who they are. The movement of the human body simply exists. The essence of us can be detached to the simplest form. At the same time, I want the viewer to develop their own comprehensive understanding of what they see.
“The ability to look deeply is the root of creativity” -Rick Rubin
Who am I to tell you what you are looking at?
